Finger/thumb sprains

Usually caused by a fall onto the hand, or a direct blow, or a sudden or repeated twisting/turning movement.

Treatment:

  • If you think your injury is caused by a repeated movement, stop the activity involved and rest the injured area.
  • Use an ice pack at regular intervals.
  • Elevate and support the injured area, this will help to reduce swelling
  • If symptoms don’t improve within 48 hours you should talk to your GP or a qualified physio.
